Homeless World Cup 2010!

Nine residents from the Foyer travelled to Sheffield United Academy ground to compete against other homeless youngsters in football trials. The chosen people would get the fantastic opportunity to fly over to Rio, Brazil to represent England and unite 64 nations participating in the Homeless World Cup – a stand to end homelessness.

In Sheffield around 30 young people took part, and on a national level over 1000 young people competed to be on the dream team.

The Bradford Foyer residents were split up in to teams with other homeless organisations, whilst being watched by coaches, picking out who was suitable for the England team. 2 of our residents Brian Quantrill and Souleiman Alampasi made it through to the next stage where they competed against other young hopefuls at Manchester United training ground. Well done to them both for making it down to the last 60!

It was a fantastic day out for the residents and staff, who were on the sidelines to give them support. It was also a chance to meet other homeless young people united by Britain’s favourite sport – FOOTBALL!
